Ready Wallet offers two escape mechanisms when Ready 2FA is enabled for your account.
These are backup flows that help protect or recover your account alongside your seed phrase.
In practice, they can be used to:
- Recover an account if you lose your seed phrase
- Remove Ready 2FA in an emergency
Change Guardian: escapeGuardian mechanism
This mechanism lets you change or remove the guardian from your account.
When to use Remove Guardian:
- If you lose access to the email address linked to your Ready 2FA
- If Ready servers are unresponsive and you cannot complete email verification
In these cases, you can remove the guardian manually:
- Open Ready Wallet
- Go to Settings
- Click on your account name
- Select Remove guardian and follow the on-screen steps
Removing the guardian will disable Ready 2FA protection after a 7-day security delay.
If you see a warning about escapeGuardian triggered but you did not initiate it:
- This could mean your seed phrase was compromised
- You will receive emails with the subject Escape guardian triggered and see a warning in Ready Wallet
- In this case, you should keep 2FA active to stop the attack:
- Open Ready Wallet
- From the home screen, click the Guardian is being removed warning banner then choose Keep Ready 2FA and sign the transaction
- After keeping 2FA, we suggest immediately moving your funds to a new wallet created with a new seed phrase
Changing account key mechanism (in development)
If you lose your seed phrase but have Ready 2FA enabled, you will be able to contact Ready to start a Key Recovery process.
After 7 days, you will regain control of your account.
If you find your seed phrase before recovery finishes and log back into Ready Wallet, you will see a guardian escape confirmation screen.
You can stop the escape by clicking Cancel key change.
If you still have your seed phrase, it is recommended to cancel the recovery since your original access is restored.
