What is 2-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Ready X account.
You enable 2FA by providing an email address that is used to verify important account actions.
2FA is enabled individually for each account, but only one email address can be used across your Ready X wallet.
How does 2FA protect my account?
When 2FA is enabled, Ready acts as a guardian for your account. Transactions require approval from both you and Ready, and Ready approves them only after you've authenticated using your email.
You only need to authenticate once per device. Your authentication remains valid for 30 days, after which you'll need to verify your email again.
You don't need to verify your email for every transaction on the same device.
This provides additional protection if your recovery phrase is compromised, as an attacker would also need access to your 2FA.
How do I enable 2FA?
- Open Settings.
- Under the account name, find Smart account is not activated and click on it.
- Enter the email address you want to use and follow the on-screen instructions.
Make sure you use a secure email address that you can reliably access.
You can't enable 2FA for:
- Multisig accounts
- Ledger accounts
- Accounts imported via private key
- View-only accounts
How do I disable 2FA?
You can remove 2FA from your account at any time.
- Open Settings.
- Select your account.
- Select Change to Standard Account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to remove 2FA.
I lost access to my 2FA email
If you no longer have access to the email address associated with your 2FA, you can use the Remove Guardian escape mechanism.
Go to your account settings, select Remove Guardian, and follow the on-screen instructions.
There is a 7-day security period before you can complete the removal. Once the security period has ended, return to Ready X and complete the removal.
Important: You have 7 days after the security period ends to complete the removal. If you don't complete it within this time, you'll need to start the process again.
Can I change the 7-day security period?
Yes. You can extend the security period from the default 7 days to anywhere between 14 and 90 days.
A longer security period gives you more time to react if someone gains access to your recovery phrase and attempts to remove 2FA from your account.
