What is 2-factor authentication?
Ready Wallet 2-factor authentication (2FA) adds extra security to your account.
You enable it by providing an email address that will be used to verify your transactions.
2FA is enabled individually for each account, but only one email address can be used wallet-wide.
Upgrade to a smart account and get 2FA
When you enable a smart account, you add Ready as a guardian to your account and protect it with 2FA.
From then on, both you and Ready must approve transactions. Ready will only approve if you authenticate with your email.
You only need to authenticate once per device. It stays valid for 30 days, after which you need to re-verify.
You do not need to verify your email for every transaction on the same device.
The main benefit is that if your seed phrase is stolen, attackers will not be able to submit transactions without access to your email.
Disable the smart account and remove 2FA
You can switch back to a standard account and remove 2FA at any time.
Go to Settings, click on your account, select “Change to Standard Account,” and execute the remove guardian transaction.
Lost access to your email and need to remove 2FA
If you lose access to your email, you can remove 2FA through an escape mechanism.
Go to your account settings and click “Remove Guardian.”
This transaction does not require 2FA approval — access to your wallet is enough.
After a 7-day security period, you need to come back and remove the guardian with another transaction. IMPORTANT: You have 7 days for this confirmation, if you don't login to your wallet for 7 days after the security period, you will have to start anew.
Your account will then become a standard account again.
Change the 7-day security period
The security period gives you time to recover your account if your seed phrase or email access is lost. It also acts as a safeguard if someone tries to remove your guardian.
You can extend this period from 7 days to anywhere between 14 and 90 days if you prefer more time to react.
